Unveiling VFX Secrets: Sutekh and Mantraps in Dr Who

Let us know what behind-the-scenes content YOU want

BOW BEFORE SHOOT FIRST’S DOG GOD

As most of you know, Shoot First is twinned with Screenclay FX, our professional VFX company. For the last year, we’ve been diligently working on an exciting project, and we are proud to announce our latest blockbuster work is now streaming on Disney+: Dr Who! 🚀✨

We have been immersed in the sci-fi universe, creating stunning visual effects for your favourite time-traveling hero. From epic space battles to intricate alien landscapes, our VFX artistry is at the forefront, bringing the captivating world of Dr Who to life.
We are particularly excited to highlight our contributions:

  • The God of Death, Sutekh, whose terrifying presence dominates episodes 7 and 8
  • The disgusting Mantraps, the hero slug-like people gobblers of episode 5

So feel free to head over to Disney+ and get binge watching and let me know what you think, but this newsletter isn’t for me to try and show off!

I’m looking to create a behind-the-scenes look at how these spectacular effects were created.

This is where I’m really interested in your input - we want to know what aspects you are most curious about. We have behind-the-scenes content already on the platform, which subscribers can find here.

I’ll generally look to find an interesting angle on a specific shot or problem, and break it down. But there is SO much that goes into this process, that there’s always a tonne to talk about - from bidding, working with clients, design, animation, rendering, compositing, working with the colourists, etc etc.

So this is your opportunity to guide the content and gain exclusive insights directly from me and my team - let me know what you’d like to learn about the process, and how you’d like to learn it. I can do it as break down videos, or we can open it up to a live Q&A, which we’ll record and upload to the platform.

The choice is yours!

Looking forward to hearing from you, and if you want to reach out to us directly about anything, as always - feel free, either at contact@billing.shootfirst.art or on the Discord!
